For The Proverbial Palate- Saturday, 05.24.2008

He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him. When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations. Proverbs 26:24-25

One thing that I have learned in my 52 years of living is that if one is dealing with an ignorant individual, just allow them to speak. Sooner or later, it (ignorance) will manifest itself.  In essence what the Lord said concerning the manifestation of a man’s heart is true. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Now if the text in Proverbs is true, one must beware, the error may not be obvious. In fact it can be down right deceiving. The word that is translated for ‘dissembleth’ in verse 24 can be interpreted as ‘disguises’ in other words the man that hateth in his heart may sound pleasant enough, but rest assured wickedness will sooner or later manifest itself.

A good example of this truth is found in the historical accounts of Ezra.

“Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel; Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye [do]; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.” Ezra 4:1-2

Now if one just heard the offer “Let us build with you: for we seek you God, as ye do, and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esahaddon, King of Assur which brought us up hither”. One might would open their arms in a foolish embrace and join in a sweet long chorus of kumbaya my Lord. But it does not take a seminary graduate to discern the spiritual deception…. “the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin”.

The word adversary means ‘one that contends with, opposes, or resist. The word coming from their heart does not compute with what is sounding from their lips. These folk are the enemies of God’s people.

Reminds me a lot of what we see today. Their are a multitude of folk saying Lord, Lord, we have healed the sick, given to the poor, and built this or that. Have we not done all of this in thine name? Due to the lack of spiritual discernment, they have found the Christian standing there with open arms ready to espouse a sweet long chorus of kumbaya my Lord. The sad thing is the Church has embraced ‘him that dissembleth with his lips’. I fear by the time the seven abominations manifest themselves, and rest assured they will, it will be to late for them that are deceived.
