For The Proverbial Palate- 06.28.2008

When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Proverbs 11:10-11

As I have studied the word of God, I have found the following true concerning God’s judgement…

  • The time aspect of His judgement:

God is righteous and will judge sin. Sometimes the sin is judge immediately or in a timely manner and some will find there judgement later, but rest assured sin will be judged.

The Psalmist says concerning the wicked, “he says in his heart God has forgotten, he hideth his face, he will never see” Psalm 10:11

The wicked can rest assured that God is not blind to ones sin. You may think that because God’s judgement is not wrought in a timely manner that there is no God, or His judgement will not come, but God will not acquit the wicked.

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Eccl 8:11

From the above verse found in Ecclesiastes that God allows the willful heart set on wickedness to flourish, and once it has filled its self with wickedness…. then comes the judgement.

  • The range of this judgement:

Concerning the range of God’s judgement, we find it two-fold. God sometimes judges sin at the individual level. A good example of this would be the judgement that befell Ananias and his wife Sapphira.

The story of this judgement is found in the 5th chapter of the Book of Acts. I seems like such a small thing, at least by today’s standards, but they sold a piece of property and brought some of the money and donated it to the church.  This was not the the reason for the judgement, we find from the scripture that “they lied to the Holy Ghost and kept back a part of the price.”

Well the rest of the story is consummated in God’s judgement and both the body of Ananias and Sapphira both fell down dead and the were both carried out an buried.

The second range of God’s judgement is found not at the individual level but the collective level. This truth is taught throughout the word of God and has its origin the sin of an individual, but a much larger perspective….. an entire nation.

We see this magnitude of collective judgement in the following…

  • the flood
  • the pagan nations inhabiting the land
  • the northern and southern kingdoms fall to Babylon
  • the ultimate judgement of all of the world during the prophetic Revelation

Now we should not think that God is sadistic and finds joy in the suffering of humanity, quite the opposite. God so loved the world that he sent his only Son to be the propitiation for our sin”, but God will not and cannot condone sin. It will be judged, sooner or later.

God is merciful, but he will not acquit the wicked, and is longsuffering not willing that any sould perish but that all would come to repentance.

The picture that we have here is that of a vial, it is filling and when it is filled and overflowing…. then cometh his judgement.

America is immersed in a vile mire of sin. She is being ‘overthrown by the mouth of the wicked’… the vial is filling…. it  can’t be much longer.
