Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. Proverbs 8:1-4
I was reading a church sign this past week that read…
“You think education is expensive,
consider what ignorance will cost you?”
This is pretty good stuff, and contains a lot of truth, but what we are in dire need of today, is not education but wisdom. Our society used to look for wisdom from the leadership in the home, the podiums in our schools, from the pulpits filling churches across our land and even the statesman residing in Washington, but it is no longer there. A lamp with no oil, a light that is darkness.
The Constitution of the United States of America was penned by the man who was head of the committee which created the final wording. That man, Governor Morris of Pennsylvania, was also the most active member of the Constitutional Convention. He also advocated that…
“education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God.”
It is really pretty simple, a society that attempts to educate the mind of an individual absent of the ‘precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God’ has created nothing more than an educated fool. For the fool hat said in his heart.. there is no God, but I’m educated!
I realize that this is not popular thinking today, which is more evidence that we are falling away from the clear teaching of God’s word. It was not unpopular thinking with the likes of Samuel Adams and other of our founding fathers…
” Let statesmen and patriots unite their endeavors to renovate the age by educating their little boys and girls…and leading them in the study and practice of the exalted virtues of the Christian system.” Samuel Adams
A nation that does not set their pilings deep upon the word of God shall find a structure later in life that shall not stand the storms of life. If our children grow up void of the ‘exalted virtues of the Christian system’ has nothing to offer their own nation, much less another.
” You do well to wish to learn our arts and our ways of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ. Congress will do everything they can to assist you in this wise intention.” George Washington
When George Washington penned these words there was a lot of truth to them, but we sure can not say that today. For we are living in a day when ‘our arts and our ways of life’ have pushed Jesus Christ completely out of our society.
What do we have to offer another nation and people, if we can not offer them Jesus Christ? To give another nation and another people anything and everything apart from Christ, is to give them nothing of eternal value. For the Spirit of the Lord is upon him, because God hath anointed him to preach the gospel to the poor; God hath sent him to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord…. these are words of wisdom for the day in which we are living my friend. His voice… a calling to the sons of man.
