For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. Proverbs 6:23-29

The Psalmist says that the word of God is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. If a man walks while there is light, he has a much better chance of seeing where he is going and any pitfalls that lie in wait.

King Solomon in the his book of proverbs is saying the same thing. Wisdom comes from the the word of God and that His ‘commandment & law’ is a lamp and a light to the feet of the child of God, and its reproof and instruction shall keep one from the evil woman.

Notice the tongue of this strange woman, it is full of untruth and deceit. Her words are for nothing more than to flatter and entice and a foolish man is vulnerable to her deception.

Notice the eyes of the man. The eyes of the man become a channel for the evil woman’s beauty to find a way to the imaginations of his heart.

The word of God tells us that God tempts no man with evil, but we are tempted when we are drawn away of our own lust. The heart of a man needs no help to sin. It (the heart) is both wicked and deceitful above all things. The external beauty and the sweet smelling aroma of this evil woman’s perfumes is all the foolish man needs to be drawn away.

But a word of warning for the foolish man who considers the pleasure of sin for a season, one can not take fire into his bosom and his clothes not be burned. No one can walk upon hot coals with bare feet and his feet be not burned. The fire of lust that burns within the foolish man shall set his soul a fire. So the man that goes in to his neighbors wife and toucheth her shall not be found innocent.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the way thereof is the way that leads to destruction.

Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity, and quicken thou me in thy way.  Psalm 119:39
