discerning the signs of the time

Mat 16:1  The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
Mat 16:2  He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
Mat 16:3  And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Mat 16:4  A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

The very Son of God stood before the religious folk of His day and they could not perceive who He was, though He had wrought such mighty works. I fear the same spiritual blindness is about the religious folk of this day.

We learn from history that after the preaching of Jonah, came the prophecy of Nahum. Some 148 years after Nineveh’s repentance God meted out His judgment upon a wicked nation/people.

America the beautiful?

Yesterday while attending the Sunday worship service and recognizing  Memorial Day, we sang the 1904 rendition of ‘America The Beautiful’. While we were singing, the Spirit posed this question to me… what is “beautiful about America”, at least from God’s perspective?

God exhorted Moses in the record of Deuteronomy to consider the people (nation) that experiences the blessing of God and then  in turn  forgets Him. Prayerfully consider below.

Deu 8:1  All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
Deu 8:2  And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
Deu 8:3  And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Deu 8:4  Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
Deu 8:5  Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
Deu 8:6  Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
Deu 8:7  For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;
Deu 8:8  A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;

Deu 8:17  And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
Deu 8:18  But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Deu 8:19  And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
Deu 8:20  As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.

Imagine a people (nation) that experiences the mercies and grace of God, only to forget and turn away…

It happened with the great city of Nineveh. In 760BC, the prophet Jonah was sent to Nineveh to predict God’s judgment upon a wicked and vile nation. By the grace of God, Nineveh repented of her sin in sackcloth and ashes and was spared the pending judgment.

Approximately 148 years later Nahum the Elkoshite, was sent to Nineveh with the burden from the LORD. They had returned to their wickedness and now was considered of the LORD to have no healing in their bruise 3:19… in the common day vernacular, the disease in their body was so graphic that it can not be cured. It is like going to the doctor and him/her telling you there is nothing we can do for you… you are going to die!

Nah 3:1  Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;
Nah 3:2  The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.
Nah 3:3  The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
Nah 3:4  Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

Nah 3:14  Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.
Nah 3:15  There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.
Nah 3:16  Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.
Nah 3:17  Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Nah 3:18  Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.
Nah 3:19  There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

One can only wonder if that is where America is in this day we are living?

There is a reason for prayer. Consider  Daniel’s Prayer (Daniel Chapter 9:3-19)….

Dan 9:3  And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
Dan 9:4  And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
Dan 9:5  We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
Dan 9:6  Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
Dan 9:7  O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
Dan 9:8  O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

In the second epistle to the Corinthians, the Spirit of God warns the church of Corinth, to beware of anyone preaching another Jesus or  gospel or bearing a different spirit.

This admonition is good advise for today, for there appears to be a lot of muddy water as to who God is, what He allows  and how He works. It’s not uncommon to hear someone say “I don’t think that God would allow this or that, or operates likes this or that, or that is NOT the god I worship!”

The problem is His ways are not our way nor His thoughts our thoughts, so when we see God do something that is not palatable to our flesh, some simply reject it as a manner in which God works. It’s NOT a creative and philosophical  way one wants to see God. When one finds him/her self in this state of mind, the mind begins to fashion a god after their own image.

And when I moved to Baltimore, I was in my 20s, and I remember sitting in a church, you know, one of those big churches where you have to get there at, you know, 6:30 in the morning to line up for 8 o’clock service, and the minister was preaching about-it was a really good preacher-and he was preaching about how God-"the Lord thy God was a jealous God and the Lord thy God would condemn us for whatever," and I remember I-I had a spiritual aha!
There. And I was in my late 20s, and I suddenly thought, "How can this God who is all loving and all powerful, why would God be jealous of me?" [1]

It is pretty apparent that Oprah is not getting spiritual direction from the Word of God and Spirit of Truth, so New Age “spiritual teacher” Ulrich (Eckhart) Tolle has filled this role. Oprah quotes from his book ‘ A NEW EARTH ’…

"My favorite quote is in the first chapter," says Winfrey during one of these webinars. "Man made God in his own image. The eternal, the infinite and the un-nameable reduced to a mental idol that you had to believe in and worship as my God or your God." [2]

When the mind has to compute the different attributes of God such as love, peace, blessings, tranquility, etc… these attributes are readily accepted as to how  we view God, but the same mind struggles with the judgment of God. It runs counter-productive to our creative and philosophical view of God.

the vial judgments poured out upon the world…

Rev 16:1  And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Rev 16:2  And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
Rev 16:3  And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
Rev 16:4  And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
Rev 16:5  And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
Rev 16:6  For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
Rev 16:7  And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
Rev 16:8  And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

Rev 16:13  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
Rev 16:14  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

The judgment mentioned in Revelation speaks of pain, not only in intensity but duration. So grievous,  that inhabitants gnaw his/her  tongue for pain. Important note “yet the world will not repent of their deeds”.

The afore mentioned judgment in Revelation is prophetic and according to the words of Christ, are future and He states the world has never seen the like or will until that day…

Mat 24:21  For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Mat 24:22  And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

To give us some perspective, I would like for you to consider a period of God’s judgment in the history of the nation Israel. Joram is king over the northern kingdom in Samaria (845BC) ,when Benhadad, king of Syria locks the city down. In those days, the enemy would encamp around a fortified city not allowing sustainable goods into the city. Once the city was starved, in weakness they would surrender or fall to defeat. Samaria finds themselves in dire straits and under the judgment of God.

the judgment of God can get very severe…

2Ki 6:24  And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
2Ki 6:25  And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
2Ki 6:26  And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
2Ki 6:27  And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
2Ki 6:28  And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.
2Ki 6:29  So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.
2Ki 6:30  And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
2Ki 6:31  Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

When a city gets hungry enough for a mother to eat her child, that pretty severe. Anything humanity suffer on the earth today will pale in comparison to the day of the Revelation.

Can this measure of judgment come to America? If so, when? Rest assured, she is not ready.

The above painting is Cranach’s depiction of the biblical narrative of infanticide by Herod the Great, the Roman-appointed King of the Jews. According to the Gospel of Matthew,^[1]

When the Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. Get up, he said, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him. So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old or under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." Matt. 2:13-18

The purpose of Herod’s order to kill all the boys surrounding Bethlehem, two years and younger, had one specific child as its target, Immanuel, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, the ONE child the wise men had traversed afar to worship. The rest of the children caught up in the murder were mere collateral damage, which can be likened to the innocent babies that are slaughtered (57 million+ since 1973) at the hand of the abortion industry.

Herod never considered his decree as an attempt to “kill God”, his only focus was the prophecy concerning a child that was to be “the king of the Jews”… political in nature… sounds all too familiar!

Now Satan (the spirit behind the curtain), quite the contrast. He had a very specific agenda, it was to kill the Messiah. After all he is a liar and a murderer from the beginning, and the lust of the father, his children will do.

America’s Killing of God-

“gott ist tot” – German translation- “God is dead”

Gott ist tot is the all familiar quote by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It first appears in Nietzsche’s 1882 collection The Gay Science (German: Die fröhliche Wissenschaft), in sections 108 (New Struggles), 125 (The Madman), and for a third time in section 343 (The Meaning of our Cheerfulness). It is also found in Nietzsche’s classic work Thus Spoke Zarathustra (German: Also sprach Zarathustra), which is most responsible for popularizing the phrase. The idea is stated in "The Madman" as follows: God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? At face value, the quote has quite the negative connotation, imagine man’s futile attempt to “kill God”.

The Philosophy Index, a philosophical think tank, that provides  interpretations of philosophical works and an overview of the basics in philosophy, says the quote is often taken out of context.

 

The meaning of the phrase is often misunderstood — many have interpreted that Nietzsche believed in a literal death or end of God. Instead, the line points to the western world’s reliance on religion as a moral compass and source of meaning.

Nietzsche’s works express a fear that the decline of religion, the rise of atheism, and the absence of a higher moral authority would plunge the world into chaos. The western world had depended on the rule of God for thousands of years — it gave order to society and meaning to life. Without it, Nietzsche writes, society will move into an age of nihilism. Although Nietzsche may have been considered a nihilist by definition, he was critical of it and warned that accepting nihilism would be dangerous. [3]

What would America, devoid of a moral compass look like?

What would the Western world that had depended on God for hundreds of years, which gave order to society and meaning to life look like if they forsook the same?

Spend some time watching the news as to what is happening in the world, more importantly, what is happening in America.

The culprit is not  nihilism, the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the belief that life is meaningless, it is a society that is devoid of Yahweh and His Messiah. What Herod attempted and failed to do at the birth of Jesus, the religious folk of Christ day attempted the same, yet NO man took His life, He laid it down, an offering for sin. He who knew no sin, became sin that we might have His righteousness.

As America continues to allow God’s presence and influence to be pushed from her society, we shall surely see the demise of the same. Consider the following admonition…

Mat 12:43  When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

 
Mat 12:44  Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

Mat 12:45  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

… Just look at the United States of America.

Begging for a blessing

Some of Atmore’s finest furry friends received a special spiritual blessing for the year Thursday evening, at Trinity Episcopal Church’s annual “Blessing of the Animals” ceremony.

The ceremony is held every year near the Oct. 4 feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, who is considered the patron saint of animals.
The Rev. Mark W. McDonald was the celebrant for the ceremony, and read a Scripture passage from the Book of Genesis, when God created man and the animals.

“Be praised for giving us the animals, birds and fish which fill your world,” McDonald prayed. “May we think of you and thank you when we play with and care for our pets. We ask you, Lord, that we may be good to our pets always, so that they may be happy also.”

At the conclusion of the ceremony, McDonald gently petted each animal and blessed them for good health in the coming year. Each dog also received a treat. [1]

We are living in a day when a religious spirit (demonic) is running rampant across our society. The thought that we have some in the church that would entertain “blessing the animals”, it is only fitting.

May God have mercy on America, more importantly the church in America… don’t look for Him to cast us a treat! For judgment must begin at the house of God.

The scripture teaches us that “if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him”. 1Jn 5:14-15

The obstacle to our desired petitions (prayers) is the lust of the flesh. “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts”. Jas 4:3

Sometimes the hardest thing to pray for, is the will of God. America should consider Daniel’s prayer for his nation…

Dan 9:3 and I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek [by] prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.

Dan 9:4 And I pray to Jehovah my God, and confess, and say: `I beseech Thee, O Lord God, the great and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness to those loving Him, and to those keeping His commands;

Dan 9:5 we have sinned, and done perversely, and done wickedly, and rebelled, to turn aside from Thy commands, and from Thy judgments:

Dan 9:6 and we have not hearkened unto Thy servants, the prophets, who have spoken in Thy name unto our kings, our heads, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

Dan 9:7 `To Thee, O Lord, [is] the righteousness, and to us the shame of face, as [at] this day, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near, and who are far off, in all the lands whither Thou hast driven them, in their trespass that they have trespassed against Thee.

Dan 9:8 `O Lord, to us [is] the shame of face, to our kings, to our heads, and to our fathers, in that we have sinned against Thee.

Dan 9:12 `And He confirmeth His words that He hath spoken against us, and against our judges who have judged us, to bring in upon us great evil, in that it hath not been done under the whole heavens as it hath been done in Jerusalem,

Dan 9:13 as it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil hath come upon us, and we have not appeased the face of Jehovah our God to turn back from our iniquities, and to act wisely in Thy truth.

Dan 9:14 And Jehovah doth watch for the evil, and bringeth it upon us, for righteous [is] Jehovah our God concerning all His works that He hath done, and we have not hearkened to His voice.

Dan 9:15 And now, O Lord our God, who hast brought forth Thy people from the land of Egypt by a strong hand, and dost make for Thee a name as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

Dan 9:16 `O Lord, according to all Thy righteous acts, let turn back, I pray Thee, Thine anger and Thy fury from Thy city Jerusalem, Thy holy mount, for by our sins, and by the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Thy people [are] for a reproach to all our neighbours;

Dan 9:17 and now, hearken, O our God, unto the prayer of Thy servant, and unto his supplication, and cause Thy face to shine on Thy sanctuary that [is] desolate, for the Lord’s sake.

Dan 9:18 `Incline, O my God, Thine ear, and hear, open Thine eyes and see our desolations, and the city on which Thy name is called; for not for our righteous acts are we causing our supplications to fall before Thee, but for Thy mercies that [are] many.
